- Georgia: the C5 visa for remote work for non-resident employers was created by Law No. 1511 of 15 April 2026 and a government decree of May 2026. It was not yet offered on the official e-visa portal on 19 Oct 2026.
- Philippines: Executive Order 86, signed on 24 April 2025, authorises a digital nomad visa. No implementing rules or application channel had been published.
- Peru: Legislative Decree 1582 of 2023 created a digital nomad status, but Migraciones has no procedure to apply for it.
- South Korea: the F-1-D visa became permanent on 30 June 2026, with a three-year maximum stay and income tiers by age and region.
- Colombia: the 2026 minimum wage behind the threshold was set by a transitional decree while a legal challenge is pending, so the amount may change.
- Turkey: Law 7582 of June 2026 exempts foreign income for 20 years for people who become tax resident after three years without Turkish tax liability. How it applies to wages for work done in Turkey awaits the implementing rules.

Andorra
- Fees
- Not published on the official pages we checked.
- Renewal
- Renewable for periods of 3 years; after 7 years of holding (5 years for Spanish, French, Portuguese nationals) renewals are for 10 years.
- Local work
- Law 42/2022 (new art. 23.5 bis Llei 9/2012): may only work for an employer established abroad or serve non-resident clients; any other paid activity in Andorra needs a separate immigration authorisation.
- Family
- Form T2 FG037 allows 'persona a carrec' (dependant) applications; means must cover dependants including those of spouse or stable partner. Extra amount per dependant not stated officially.
- Tax for the holder
- No special regime for digital nomads in Law 42/2022. Under the personal income tax law an individual is resident if present more than 183 days in the calendar year or if the main base of activities or economic interests is in Andorra; the programme only requires 90 days of residence a year, so residence depends on days and ties. Flat 10% rate.
- Also note
- Requires a favourable resolution from the Ministry responsible for the economy before applying, health and disability insurance, housing in Andorra, and a 90-day-per-year residence commitment.

Antigua and Barbuda
- Status
- Discontinued. A Government of Antigua and Barbuda notice listed 10 Nov 2025 states the NDR Programme, run under the Department of Immigration, 'will come to an end on November 15, 2025'. No successor remote-work route was announced. Nearest route: ordinary visitor entry, or the Department of Immigration's standard residence and work permit routes.
- What is changing
- NDR ended on 15 November 2025 per the official notice. The notice does not say how existing holders or pending applications are treated; it directs questions to the Department of Immigration on (268) 562-8755 or (268) 562-1387.
- Tax residence
- The programme is closed, so no programme-specific tax treatment applies to new applicants.

Argentina
- Fees
- Not published on the official pages we checked.
- Renewal
- Prorrogable for an equal period of 180 days; Disposicion 758/2022 allows one extension, on condition of presence in Argentina for at least 50% of the period.
- Local work
- Defined as remote work for individuals or companies based abroad.
- Family
- Neither Disposicion DNM 758/2022 nor the Migraciones procedure page mentions family members.
- Tax for the holder
- Foreigners are tax resident once they obtain permanent residence, or after staying 12 months under temporary authorisations. A nomad residence of up to 180 days does not reach that, so no residence arises in year one.
- Also note
- Only for nationals of countries that do not need a tourist visa to enter Argentina. Applicant must be in Argentina and apply in person (by email to DNM in CABA, or at the DNM delegation elsewhere); not processed through RADEX. Requires proof of remote work activity for clients or employers abroad, a CV and at least one work reference.

The page states 'you will not need any governmental documentation' beyond the ED card, with 'One Happy Workation' chosen as the purpose of visit. Nearest route: visitor entry with the ED card.
- Tax residence
- The official page says participants pay no Aruban income tax because they are not registered as Aruba residents and are paid from their home country. The stay is capped at 90 days.

Australia
- Status
- No digital nomad visa. Nearest route is the Visitor visa (subclass 600, up to 12 months) or an ETA or eVisitor. Home Affairs describes these as for tourism or business visits and does not say whether remote work for an overseas employer is permitted.
- Tax residence
- The ATO uses four tests: the resides test (primary), domicile, the 183-day test and the Commonwealth super test. The 183-day test does not apply if your usual place of abode is outside Australia and you do not intend to live here, so a long-stay visitor's status depends on the facts. Temporary residents are generally exempt on foreign-source income.

Nearest official route: Red-White-Red Card for Self-employed Key Workers, which requires a macroeconomic benefit to Austria (for example EUR 100,000 investment capital transfer, job creation, know-how transfer); issued for 24 months, then a settlement permit. Fees: EUR 120 application, EUR 20 granting, EUR 20 personalisation.

- Family
- Dependants allowed: USD 25 application fee and USD 500 permit fee per dependant. Married couples who both intend to work must apply separately.

Belize
- Fees
- USD 500 per adult and USD 200 per child (Immigration Department page)
- Renewal
- Not renewable.
- Local work
- A person issued a Long Stay Permit or his dependents shall not engage in employment in Belize.
- Family
- Spouse and certain unmarried children (for example under 18); higher income threshold of USD 100,000 applies.
- Tax for the holder
- No special tax treatment for Long Stay Visitor Permit holders is stated on any official page. Under the Income and Business Tax Act s. 16(6) an individual is resident if present more than 182 days in the basis year or domiciled in Belize; the permit caps the stay at six months a year, which sits at that line, so residence depends on actual days.
- Also note
- Eligibility limited to citizens or permanent residents of approved regions; applicant must be employed outside Belize. The immigration page does not use the words remote work, but the tourism board presents it as the Work Where You Vacation remote work programme.

Canada
- Status
- No digital nomad visa. Nearest route is visitor status (visitor visa or eTA). IRCC guidance on digital nomads says people who can perform their job remotely from anywhere need only temporary resident status as a visitor, remote work for a foreign employer is not treated as entering the Canadian labour market, and visitors may stay up to 6 months at a time (a visitor record is needed to extend).
- What is changing
- The IRCC digital nomad guidance (part of Canada's Tech Talent Strategy, 2023) says remote workers may later seek a work permit if they get a Canadian job offer; no dedicated visa has been created.
- Tax residence
- Canada taxes residents based on residential ties (home, spouse or dependants in Canada); a person without such ties who is in Canada 183 days or more in a calendar year is deemed resident for the whole year. A single 6-month visit usually stays under 183 days, but ties or extensions can make a visitor resident.

Georgia
- Status
- No live dedicated programme confirmed. Nearest route is visa-free entry (citizens of many countries may stay up to one year) or a C category visa. Since 1 March 2026 foreigners generally need a right to work, but the 2026 rules exempt work for a non-resident related to activity outside Georgia. The new C5 visa is in the law but no official page showing it open for applications was found.
- What is changing
- C5 ordinary visa created by Law No. 1511 of 15 April 2026 (tourist purpose, activity only for a non-resident related to its activity outside Georgia, 5-year multiple entry with 1-year stay, covers spouse and minor children, refusals not appealable). Government Decree No. 184 of 7 May 2026 (amending Resolution No. 280 of 2015) makes C5 an e-visa only, issued via the e-VISA PORTAL, fee USD 300, decision in 5 working days (10 if extended); Resolution No. 253 of 8 June 2026 requires a passport valid 2 years. Eligible countries are to be set by a Foreign Minister order, which was not found, and evisa.gov.ge (About and FAQ pages) still lists no C5 option.
- Tax residence
- An individual is tax resident if actually in Georgia 183 days or more in any continuous 12-month period ending in the tax year. Whether a remote worker reaches this depends on how long their visa-free or visa stay lasts.

- Tax for the holder
- Resident if the person has a permanent or main home, habitual abode or centre of vital interests in Greece, or is present more than 183 days in total in any 12-month period, and is then resident from the first day of presence. The 50% employment income exemption (art. 5C Income Tax Code) requires a new job with a Greek entity or a Greek permanent establishment of a foreign business, so it does not fit a nomad working for a foreign employer.

- Status
- No digital nomad visa. Nearest route is the Visitor Visa or NZeTA. Effective 27 January 2025 it is a condition of all visitor visas that the holder may undertake remote work in New Zealand for an overseas employer, but not for a New Zealand employer, not supplying goods or services for payment to New Zealand businesses or people, and not work requiring presence at a New Zealand workplace; remote work cannot be the sole purpose of the visit.

Peru
- Status
- Decreto Legislativo 1582 (November 2023) created the 'Nomada Digital' migratory status (to be granted by Migraciones) for remote workers employed by companies domiciled abroad, but no Migraciones procedure exists: the Migraciones TUPA (DS 008-2023-IN), including its latest update by Resolucion de Superintendencia 000150-2025-MIGRACIONES (El Peruano, 12 Dec 2025), contains no nomad procedure. - What is changing

Philippines
- Status
- No digital nomad visa is being issued. Executive Order No. 86 (signed 24 April 2025) authorises a Digital Nomad Visa issued by the DFA through embassies and consulates, but no implementing guidelines, fee, income threshold or application channel were found on an official page. Nearest route in practice is temporary visitor status under Section 9(a) with Bureau of Immigration tourist visa extensions; the BI site lists tourist visa extension as an eService but did not state whether remote work is permitted.
- What is changing
- EO 86 of 2025: DNV for remote workers aged 18+, with income generated outside the Philippines (no amount set), health insurance, clean record, nationality of a country offering a DNV to Filipinos, stay of up to 1 year, renewable. Section 7 required DFA (with DOJ, DOT, BI, BIR) guidelines within 30 days and Section 5 a pilot within 60 days of effectivity. As of 19 October 2026 no published guidelines or open application process were found on DFA, BI or Official Gazette pages. The Philippine Embassy in The Hague has a DNV page repeating EO 86 eligibility with no fee or application procedure.
- Tax residence
- Foreigners are usually nonresident aliens; one who stays more than 180 days in a calendar year is treated as engaged in trade or business in the Philippines and taxed on Philippine-source income. Resident alien status depends on having no definite intention about length of stay, not on a day count. EO 86 contains no tax provision.

Singapore
- Status
- No digital nomad visa. Nearest route is the Short-Term Visit Pass. MOM says work passes are for foreigners working for Singapore-based companies, that an EOR applying a work pass for someone based in Singapore while working for an overseas company would be committing an offence, and that a foreigner can use an STVP for meetings for up to 90 days a year. MOM does not state that visitors may do remote work for a foreign employer. The ONE Pass and other work passes are not remote work visas.
- Tax residence
- A foreigner who is physically present or works in Singapore for 183 days or more in a calendar year is tax resident; concessions treat a continuous stay straddling two or three calendar years as resident. Visit pass stays are far shorter, so year-one residence is unlikely.

South Africa
- Fees
- Application fee set per mission, for example USD 55 non-refundable (Embassy in Washington, port of entry remote work checklist) or CAD 32 (High Commission Ottawa)
- Renewal
- Extension may be applied for: the Director-General may extend the period for which a visa was issued (s. 10(7) Immigration Act), application in person at least 60 days before expiry (reg. 9(8)); the s. 11(1)(b) visa period may not exceed three years. Change of status inside South Africa not allowed except in exceptional circumstances.
- Local work
- Section 11(2) of the Act: a visitor's visa holder 'may not conduct work' unless authorised; regulation 11(4)(b) authorises only remote work for a foreign employer.
- Family
- Regulation 11(4)(c): a visitor's visa may be issued to accompany the holder of a section 11 visa, provided the foreigner is the spouse or child of the holder.
- Tax for the holder
- No special regime. Residence depends on being ordinarily resident (the country you naturally return to) or the physical presence test (more than 91 days in the year and in each of the five previous years, and more than 915 days in those five years), so a stay of a year or two usually does not create residence; non-residents are taxed only on South African-source income.
- Also note
- Remote work is a visitor's visa category under regulation 11(4) of the Immigration Regulations 2014 (introduced 20 May 2024 at R1,000,000 a year, cut to about R650,976 from 9 October 2024). DIRCO mission checklists (Feb 2025) list it as an available application type.

- Family
- The official pages do not say.
- Tax for the holder
- Resident if staying continuously more than six months in a calendar year (GVK art. 4), but people in Turkey for a specific temporary job are not resident (art. 5). New: Law 7582 added GVK art. mukerrer 20/D, which exempts foreign-source income for 20 years for anyone who becomes Turkish resident on or after 1 Jan 2026 and had no Turkish domicile or tax liability in the previous three calendar years. It is not specific to nomads and does not need an opt-in, but it only applies if those conditions are met. Separately, art. 23(1)(14/a) exempts foreign-currency wages paid by a foreign employer that has no activity in Turkey.
- Also note
- Pre-application on the GoTurkey digital nomad platform (Ministry of Culture and Tourism) first; then visa and residence permit. Requires university degree, contract with a company outside Turkey, income USD 3,000/month or USD 36,000/year, health insurance EUR 30,000+. United Arab Emirates
- Fees
- GDRFA Dubai: residence permit fee AED 200 + Knowledge Dirham AED 10 + Innovation Dirham AED 10 + inside-country fee AED 500 + delivery AED 20 (plus medical test, Emirates ID and insurance costs). u.ae (Dubai programme): USD 287 per person plus UAE-valid medical insurance and processing fees.
- Renewal
- Renewable under the same terms as first issued (GDRFA renewal service); u.ae: renewable upon re-application; no cap on renewals stated.
- Local work
- Must prove remote work for an organisation outside the UAE; no local sponsor. Local employment would need a standard work permit.
- Family
- U.ae: family can join once the application is approved ('you can also bring your family along'); GDRFA issuance page does not detail family sponsorship terms or extra income.
- Tax for the holder
- The UAE has no federal or emirate personal income tax; u.ae lists 'zero income tax for individuals' as a programme benefit. Holders may still be taxed by their home country.
- Also note
- Self-sponsored one-year residence for people employed by or owning a company outside the UAE. Abu Dhabi route: the Abu Dhabi Residents Office page lists the Remote Work Visa (USD 3,500/month, 1 year, 6 months of bank statements) but states 'Submitting a nomination request for this category is currently unavailable through Abu Dhabi Residents Office', so Abu Dhabi residents apply via the federal ICP channel instead.

United Kingdom
- Status
- No digital nomad visa. Nearest route is the Standard Visitor route (usually up to 6 months). Appendix Visitor: Permitted Activities PA 4(h) lets a visitor undertake activities relating to their employment overseas remotely from within the UK, provided remote work is not the main purpose of the visit.
- Tax residence
- Under the Statutory Residence Test, the first automatic UK test makes a person resident if they spend 183 days or more in the UK in the tax year (6 April to 5 April); other tests look at UK home and ties. A standard visit of up to 6 months normally stays under 183 days in one tax year, but ties and repeat visits can make a person resident earlier.

United States
- Status
- No digital nomad visa. Nearest route is the B-1/B-2 visitor visa (or ESTA). The State Department page says an individual on a visitor visa (B1/B2) is not permitted to accept employment or work in the United States; it does not address remote work for a foreign employer.
- Tax residence
- Non-citizens become US tax residents under the green card test or the substantial presence test: at least 31 days in the current year and 183 days over three years counting all current-year days, one third of last year's and one sixth of the year before. A visitor stay is normally too short to trigger it in year one, but repeat visits can.

Uruguay
- Fees
- 55.71 U.I. (Unidades Indexadas), cannot be paid from abroad.
- Renewal
- Renewable once only for another 180 days; after that the holder may apply for another migration category (arts. 4 and 7 of Decreto 394/009)
- Local work
- Art. 8 literal B covers remote activity 'para entidades radicadas en el extranjero' (for entities based abroad); work for Uruguayan clients is not addressed.
- Family
- Decreto 394/009 art. 8 (text by Decreto 238/022) and the DNM procedure page do not mention family members.
- Tax for the holder
- Resident with more than 183 days in Uruguay in the calendar year (absences up to 30 days count as sporadic), or with the main base of activities or economic or vital interests in Uruguay (presumed if spouse and dependent minor children live there). The initial permit is under 180 days, so a holder on the first permit alone would not cross the day threshold.
- Also note
- Renewal requires Uruguayan ID, criminal record certificate and Uruguayan vaccination record.

Vietnam
- Status
- No digital nomad visa. Nearest route is the e-visa (generally up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, under Law No. 23/2023/QH15) or visa exemption for eligible nationalities.
- Tax residence
- An individual is resident if present in Vietnam 183 days or more in the calendar year or in 12 consecutive months from arrival, or if they have a permanent residence (including a registered address or a fixed-term lease). A 90-day e-visa stay alone does not reach this.

07 · For employers
Approving a nomad request: payroll, permanent establishment and the 183-day clock
A digital nomad visa settles one question: whether the person may stay. It does not touch the employer's duties, which run on their own clocks and some of which start on the first working day.
Day 1
Social security and registration can start immediately
- In the EU, social security follows the country where the work is done from the first day (Regulation 883/2004, art. 11), unless the employer posts the worker with an A1 certificate.
- Spain requires a foreign employer to register with Spanish social security before work starts, with no Spanish workplace needed.
- Germany requires social insurance reporting from the start of employment, and a foreign employer needs a German employer number.
- France requires any employer paying salary taxable in France to withhold and register. Canada requires withholding even when a treaty exempts the employee.
Day 183
The treaty exemption for the employee ends
- Under Article 15(2) of the OECD Model, the employee stays taxable at home only while present 183 days or fewer in any 12 months, paid by a non-resident employer, and the cost is not borne by a local permanent establishment.
- Most countries in our tracker also make the holder tax resident at or near this point.
- Day counts usually include part days, and some countries count by calendar year.
12 months
Permanent establishment is tested over a year
- Under the OECD's 2025 Commentary, a home office used for less than 50% of working time over any 12 months is generally not a place of business of the employer.
- At 50% or more, it depends on whether there is a commercial reason for the person to be in that country, such as meeting local customers or suppliers.
- Letting someone work abroad to keep them, or to save office costs, is not a commercial reason.
Permanent establishment
50%
of working time over 12 months
Below this, a home office is generally not a place of business of the enterprise. It is a guide in the Commentary, not a safe harbour in national law.

Employee income tax

The treaty exception for employment income ends here, and it also fails earlier if a local entity or permanent establishment bears the salary.
Commercial reason
50%+
the commercial reason test applies

Fits When an employer of record can help
- The person already holds the right to work for a local employer, for example as a citizen, permanent resident or spouse of a resident.
- The country lets a local employer employ the holder. Of the visas in our tracker, only Estonia and Italy do.
- The stay will pass 183 days or involve local customers, and you want local payroll, social security and employment contracts handled properly. Compare providers in our EOR rankings.
Does not fit When it cannot
- An EOR employs the person through its local entity, so it becomes a local employer. 43 of 45 nomad visas require an employer based abroad or bar local employment.
- Spain allows employees on its telework visa to work only for companies located outside Spain. Croatia excludes anyone who works for a Croatian employer.
- In those countries, local employment needs a standard work permit, which the EOR or employer must sponsor where the law allows it.
Before you approve a nomad request
- Check the visa's employer rule. Most require the employer to be abroad, which keeps you as the employer of record.
- Count days, including part days, against the country's residence test and the 183-day treaty limit.
- Map the person's role. Sales, business development or contract signing raises permanent establishment risk; internal work rarely does.
- Check social security. Inside the EU it follows the place of work unless you post the person with an A1 certificate.
- Check registration and withholding. Some countries, including France and Canada, expect them from a foreign employer from the first day.
- Set a written policy with a maximum stay, approved countries and a return trigger before the first threshold.
- Plan the exit. If the stay becomes a move, switch to local employment through an entity or an employer of record with a proper work permit.

How this tracker is built
Official sources only
Every cell comes from an immigration authority, ministry, official gazette, legislation database or tax authority. Big Four summaries are used only for a few tax cells, and labelled.
A strict definition
We count a visa only if its eligibility is defined by remote work for an employer or clients abroad and it was open to applications on the review date.
One exchange rate date
Thresholds are shown in their own currency and converted to USD a month at ECB and central bank reference rates for 30 September 2026.
Every change logged
When a rule, threshold or status changes, we record the date, the old and new value and the source in the update log.
What we count
- Dedicated visa
- Includes Thailand's Destination Thailand Visa, Portugal's D8 and Costa Rica's Law 10008 stay. Excludes freelance and self-employment permits, retiree and passive-income visas, investor visas, visitor status that tolerates remote work, and regional pilots.
- Territories
- Curaçao and Montserrat are shown and tagged, but kept out of country counts.
- Closed or not live
- Programmes closed to new applicants, or in law but not issuing, are shown as No with a note.
- Tiered thresholds
- For Malaysia, Taiwan and South Korea we use the lowest tier an applicant can qualify under. The table shows the other tiers.
How cells are labelled
- Yes, Restricted, No
- What the official text says, applied to all holders, to some cases or with a limit, or not allowed.
- Not stated
- We read the official text and it is silent on the point. Excluded from counts; each count shows its denominator.
- Unverified
- The official page exists but could not be read, or the terms are not published. Excluded from counts.
- Status unconfirmed
- Cabo Verde: launched by government decision in 2020, but no official page confirms it is taking applications today. Excluded from counts.

09 · FAQ
Digital nomad visas: common questions
Which countries offer a digital nomad visa?
As of 19 Oct 2026, 46 countries run a dedicated digital nomad or remote worker visa that is open to applications. Europe has 20, including Spain, Portugal, Italy, Croatia and Greece, and Asia Pacific has 9, including Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Malaysia. Curaçao and Montserrat run programmes as territories.
Which digital nomad visa is the cheapest or easiest to qualify for?
By income threshold, Ecuador (USD 1,446 a month), Brazil and Mauritius (USD 1,500) and Colombia (about USD 1,572) set the lowest bars. 9 programmes set no fixed amount or could not be confirmed, including Thailand, which asks for THB 500,000 in savings instead. Iceland sets the highest, at ISK 1,000,000 a month, about USD 8,288.
Can a digital nomad work for a local company?
Almost never. In 43 of the 45 countries with a stated rule, the visa requires an employer based abroad or bars local employment. Italy and Estonia are the exceptions, and Spain lets self-employed holders earn up to 20% of their income from Spanish companies.
Do digital nomads pay tax in the country they live in?
Usually, once they stay long enough. Only 8 countries leave holders' foreign earnings untaxed, through a legal exemption or because there is no income tax. Most others apply their normal residence rules, often a 183-day test, and in 14 of them a holder who stays for the full first grant becomes tax resident in year one.
How long can you stay on a digital nomad visa?
Most programmes grant one year at first. 9 cap the total stay at 12 months or less, including Japan, Iceland, Belize and Namibia at six months, while 14 can be renewed with no stated limit.
Can family members come on a digital nomad visa?
In 33 of the 34 countries that state a rule, yes. Hungary's White Card does not allow family reunification, and 10 governments do not say either way.
Can an employer of record sponsor a digital nomad visa?
Generally not. An employer of record employs the person through its local entity, and 43 of 45 nomad visas require an employer based abroad or bar local employment. Where the person needs to work for a local employer, a standard work permit is the route.
Does a digital nomad visa protect the employer from permanent establishment or payroll duties?
No. The visa covers immigration only. Under the OECD's 2025 Commentary, a home office used for less than 50% of working time over 12 months is generally not a permanent establishment, but at 50% or more the commercial reason test applies, and in the EU social security follows the place of work from the first day.
